Linguistic politics in Italy towards minorities: present situation in Sardinia
ROZKOVCOVÁ, Markéta
The present bachelor thesis aims to map the linguistic situation on the island of Sardinia and the language policy towards the minority languages present there. In the first half of the thesis, I describe the minority languages spoken by the local population and briefly discuss the historical circumstances surrounding the development of each of them. I also focus on the Ligurian dialect spoken here. I also briefly mention some of the differences between standard Italian and the regional Italian of Sardinia. The second half of this thesis is then devoted to the laws that protect minority languages and the concrete steps of the regional language policy that will take to promote or revive minority languages.

Grospičová, Alena ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
This thesis deals with the development and status of the Irish language in Northern Ireland and with the support and attitude of the UK to this language. It describes the position of Irish since the birth of Northern Ireland, its history throughout the 20th century, and its current situation within the Northern Ireland and United Kingdom. Irish considered a minority language in the territory of Northern Ireland. The first official recognition Irish received in 1998 under the Good Friday Agreement. It followed the adoption of other treaties and strategies, such as the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages. In the bachelor thesis, the individual contracts analyzed, outlined the implications of the adoption and implementation of these measures, and described support programs that try to move the Irish into this territory and make it a functional language and problems that impede the development of Irish. In addition, the status of Irish in the territory of the Republic of Ireland, where this language is the first official language according to the Constitution, is in contrast, but in practice, it is still not.

Fraňková, Martina ; Scheu, Harald Christian (advisor) ; Hofmannová, Helena (referee)
The Right to Use a Minority Language in European Law Key words Minority languages, European Union, Council of Europe Summary The purpose of my thesis is to describe and analyse the right to use minority languages in the Council of Europe and in the European Union. The change of lifestyle and globalisation lead to the increased pressure on the European minority languages, from which many occur in the Atlas of the Worlds' Languages in Danger published by UNESCO. It is the description of the starting points and possibilities of the law protection, primarily on the ground of the two above mentioned international organisations that could reverse a rather unfavourable development in this area, which form the basis of this paper. The attention is paid to the positive rights of so called traditional minorities; the prohibition of discrimination is mentioned only marginally, as well as the problem of migrants' languages and related topics. First part of the thesis is focused on the description of bases of the language law and politics and their relation to the protection of (national) minorities, whose part is the right to use minority languages, as well as the analysis of the single components of this right. First chapter brings an overview of the legal regulation of minority rights in the context of the European...
